The climate crisis has a huge impact on everyone's life, but those who suffer the most are certainly children, because they are more vulnerable and exposed to the risks involved. Save the Children, together with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, published the Report Born into the Climate Crisis 2. An unprecedented life: protecting children's rights in a changing climate, with data, projections and recommendations to protect the rights of the new generations in a changing climate.

According to the study, if global warming is not limited to the 1.5°C target set by the Paris Agreement, global temperatures will rise 2.7°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. This will mean that approximately 100 million of the 120 million children born in 2020 (or 83%) will face unprecedented exposure to extreme heat in their lifetime.

In addition to stressing the need for the rapid phase-out of fossil fuel use and subsidies, Save the Children highlights the importance of increasing climate financing, promoting child-centred and locally-led adaptation measures, and ensuring the participation of those under 18 in shaping climate actions and policies.

The English version of the Report is available on the Save the Children website.
