Family mediation is an important tool of support, guided by skilled and qualified mediators, aimed at establishing a new psycho-emotional balance within marital conflicts, whether still emerging or following the breakdown of the relationship- It also produces positive effects on the situation of minors involved in their parents’ separation. The new study and proposal document of the Ombudsperson for Children and Adolescents (Agia) is dedicated to this very issue: Family Mediation in Italy.
The publication, drafted by a commission appointed by the Ombudsperson, describes family mediation in Italy, and recommends the legislator to offer economic support to use the service and access legal aid for the mediator's fees. In addition, the document calls for the development of national guidelines and the establishment of lists of family mediators, encouraging the creation of information desks within the courts.
The document can be consulted on the Ombudsperson website.
