Aimed at primary and secondary schools, the MaestraNatura project, implemented by the Italian National Institute of Health with the contribution of the Ministry of Health, seeks to promote correct lifestyles and healthy eating, taking into account individual and collective wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

The project was created with the aim of offering an operational tool for teachers in a context characterised by an excess of teaching approaches that are not always based on scientific principles. MaestraNatura uses an integrated systemic-constructivist approach in a competency-based teaching programme: through an e-learning platform with downloadable lessons and interactive experimental activities, primary school students learn fundamental concepts about the plant world and the role of water and plants in nutrition, while lower secondary school students expand their understanding of the properties and functions of nutrients to develop a balanced relationship with food.

The project also includes a national competition open to all primary and lower secondary school classes: children and young people are invited to show, through graphic or multimedia works or practical initiatives, how daily choices at home, at school, and in the community can make a difference in terms of health and sustainability. Interested schools must submit their registration form by 31 January 2026. Information about the project and the competition is available on MaestraNatura’s dedicated website.
