The 8th Monitoring Report on the Voluntary Guardianship System of the Italian Ombudsperson for Children and Adolescents, covering the period from 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2024, is online. The document provides data on the number of voluntary guardians of unaccompanied foreign minors in Italy and on the training courses organised by the ombudspersons of the Italian regional and autonomous provinces.
According to the report, volunteer guardians - suitably trained citizens who, without remuneration, support unaccompanied foreign children and adolescents during their integration process - are on the rise: from 4,169 guardians as of 31 December 2023 to 4,588 as of 31 December 2024, an increase of about 10% on an annual basis. The document also reports a decrease in the number of active guardianships and in the overall number of unaccompanied foreign minors in Italy during the period under consideration.
The report can be consulted on the website of the Centro di documentazione sul sistema della tutela volontaria (Documentation centre on the voluntary protection system), in the Monitoraggio (Monitoring) and Rapporti di Monitoraggio (Monitoring Reports) sections.
