The Care Leavers Project consists of the experimentation of actions for those who, once reached the age of majority, live out of their family of origin on the basis of a court order. The project is promoted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies as part of the Fund for the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion and is carried out in collaboration with the Istituto degli Innocenti.
The project is being tested throughout the country in line with the provisions of the decree establishing the Citizenship Income, to which part of the target audience has access. The protagonists of the experimentation are boys and girls who, once reached the age of majority, live out of their family of origin on the basis of a court order that has placed them in residential communities or in hetero-familial foster care. The experimentation involves both young people affected by an administrative follow-up measure and those who do not benefit from it.
The general objective of the project is to accompany these young adults towards their autonomy through the creation of the necessary supports to allow them to gradually build their future and fully become adults from the moment they leave the protection system.
